starstarstarstarstarFantastic. I have seen it before but think the new cast are just as good - different but great. I am amazed to see that there are vmore performances next week at the Prince Edward theatre priorm to the transfer. That mnust be a great opportunaity to get to see this wonderful show at short notice. I would love to see it again. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (217.34.115.49)21 May 04
starstarstarstarstarNever before have I seen a whole theatre stand at the end of a performance. If I am lucky enough to secure tickets to see this show again I will. Do not hesitate to go.... Fantastic all round suitable for all. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (217.137.86.67)09 May 04
starThis show is dire beyond belief. Words fail me it's so bad ... - USER: Whatsonstage.com (81.101.66.214)06 Apr 04
starstarstarstarstarIf I could add more stars I would. This is still the best show in the West End without a doubt. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (213.48.9.42)03 Apr 04
starLast summer the show was fab - the new cast are awful! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (212.159.94.192)08 Mar 04
starstarstarstarstarStill very enjoyable. Once the cast have had time to settle in they will be fab! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (212.135.1.49)24 Feb 04
starWELL I THOUGHT MAMMA MIA WAS MARVELLOUS! I WAS THE FIRST TO JUMP UP AND DANCE AT THE END AND I'D GLADLY PAY £80 AGAIN TO SEE IT WITH MY HUSBAND. I THOUGHT THE ACTING WAS MARVELLOUS AND THE SINGING WAS JUST MARVELLOUS. MY HUSBAND ASKED, "DID YOU 'ABBA' GOOD TIME?" AND I SAID, "OH YES". - USER: Whatsonstage.com (82.2.64.40)17 Jan 04
starUtter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter drivel! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (82.2.64.40)17 Jan 04
starMama Mia is so shockingly bad I found the whole experience really quite depressing. Admittedly, I am not a fan of musical theatre at all. And I hate Abba! Oh Joy of joys...(I didn't pay by the way - if I had i'd be demanding a refund!) but I was willing to go along with an open mind. I ended up feeling sorry for Abba! However, if I see one more stage school brat with the obligatory projected voice and protruding waistline prancing around the stage with their hammy "acting" I will throw myself from the balcony. This is not theatre - it's panto, no - that's insulting to panto - it's GCSE drama (grade E)/saturday night karaoke hell! And I thought Blood Brothers was bad!(I didn't pay for that either!) - USER: Whatsonstage.com (81.103.218.51)17 Jan 04
starstarstarstarstarI think the fact that Saturday performances are selling out weeks and weeks in advance says it all really. A brilliantly taltented cast - it's a shame so many are leaving - whose energy is infectious. Louise PLowright, Kim Ismay and Myra McFadyen particularly stand out as the dynamic trio. 5 stars for entertainment. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (195.92.168.174)07 Jan 04
starstarstarstarstarA brilliant show, and well worth the £80 paid for 2 tickets. I am not sure it would have been such a big hit had it not been for the Abba music. The cast many unknown are a credit to their tutors. I would not hesitate in recommending this as a top London show to see. Val - Leighton Buzzard. starstarstarstarstarAbsolutely brilliant show, and very funny in parts. Without the Abba music I am not sure it would have been such a big hit. Well worth the £80 I paid for 2 tickets, Highly recommended to see - USER: Whatsonstage.com (81.99.66.107)02 Jan 04
starstarstarstarstarThis show was the best part of my visit to London which was on Friday 5th December 2003. The show consisted of a great story, wonderful and talented actors and actresses, plus 22 ABBA songs. All in all, the show was excellent, gets a 5 star rating and I will definately go back there to see it again! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (82.33.203.99)06 Dec 03
starstarstarstarstarIf you expect more than a weak vehicle for some wonderful Abba songs, you'll be disappointed. If not, you'll love it. I did - twice - and will do so again. But the November 2003 cast IS stronger than March 2002. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (212.71.8.90)23 Nov 03
starstarstarstarstarAbsolutely fantastic!! Great fun - USER: Whatsonstage.com (212.135.1.49)11 Nov 03
starIts packs them in as and is the only sell out show in town, but peeps must be going for the great band and songs ,cant be for the cast as they are hopeless Plowright okay i guess but the rest!!dear me!!Alex Jay just cant sing and is so painful hearing her murder all the songs, when will they employ a decent pop singer to do the songs justice. Vegas has, as Jill Paice there is excellent and the dads have actually hold a tune there too!. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (152.163.253.102)29 Sep 03

starstarstarstarstarMamma Mia is such a wonderful show; the songs fit in perfectly with the story. Who cares if it's not the strongest book ever written, this musical is light-hearted fun and a more serious storyline ruin it. The cast are so lively and full of energy that spills out into the audience at the end; everyone is up on their feet clapping and dancing. There are some hilarious moments, particulary the bedroom scene in the first act. Kim Ismay and Myra McFadyen, as Tanya and Rosie respectively, make one hell of a team, both perfect in their roles. I also have to mention Louise Plowright who's performance last time was absolutely incredible. She is a true lead and has so much presence on stage. Also her rendition on The Winner Takes It All is not to be missed. She has the most beautiful voice, so strong and powerful, yet filled with emotion. This is a must see musical for anyone who's willing to ignore the slight tongue-in-cheek factor and prepared to have a great night out. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (195.92.168.165)08 Sep 03
starstarstarstarThis is an excellent show, full of energy and excitement. The first act was brilliant, although I was slightly disappointed in the second act. The theatre was packed and by the end of the show, everyone was out of their seats and dancing in the aisles. Terrific fun! However, if you are a "traditional" musical fan, it might not be for you. Everyone in the group I went with loved it, except one, who has always hated ABBA. The storyline might not be the strongest, but the idea is innovative and the music is fun. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (68.108.209.189)05 Sep 03
starstarI saw the original premiere, I was dissappointed, sounds like it has not improved, I can't wait to see the newly re-written Chess, that is now a love story! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (81.136.216.25)24 Jul 03

starstarstarstarStill a good show. However, several things need to be changed for transfer next summer to the Prince of Wales - bigger sumptious set is essential. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (194.105.168.6)10 Jul 03
starI unfortunate saw the show on Monday 16 June - should have rather gone to see WWRY again! Money wasted! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (195.107.47.197)19 Jun 03
starAbsolutely pathetic! An waste of money and time. The only good thing was when it came to an end! The theatre foyer is so small and the whole show is like nightmare. The Winner takes it all was well sung but for the rest!! Weak! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (195.107.47.197)19 Jun 03
starCannot believe that people that read travel magazine voted for Mamma Mia! Did they really enjoyed this excuse for a musical! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (195.107.47.197)19 Jun 03

starstarstarstarstar"MAMMA MIA! VOTED UK’S BEST LIVE SHOW! MAMMA MIA! has been voted the UK’s Best Live Stage/Theatrical Production at the 2003 Group Travel Awards. The awards were held on June 6, 2003 at the Park Lane Hotel in London. MAMMA MIA! was one of seven finalists and fought off stiff competition from The Lion King, We Will Rock You, My Fair Lady, Chicago, Our House, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Bombay Dreams. This is the 3rd time in 4 years that MAMMA MIA! has won this coveted award. The awards are voted for by readers of the country’s top group travel publication." I think this says enough!! Oh and that they've extended the booking period!! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (195.92.168.177)16 Jun 03
starstarstarstarWeak storyline, set not up to much but otherwise a fantastic fun musical with a superb cast. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (195.92.168.167)30 May 03

starAlex Jay was missing yesterday and was the week before at the saturday matinee I understand and maybe all shows who knows and must be too soon for a holiday she only began on March 17th???,and most of the band was understudies too and very very poor,Plowright forgot her words in Mamma Mia and the dads have the worst voices i have ever heard on a west end stage well Sam and Harry anyway. The show now looks stale and tired and I understand Benny was in last night, poor chap!! he cant be happy with the rag tag performances on offer now or the many empty seats that are appearing all over the theatre, one side of the front row for the matinee was nearly empty yesterday. Elinor Collet on as Sophie was okay but not really the point as I doubt this show ever has a full cast on show. Forget about changing theatres time for this show and its greedy producers (a price hike to £45 for weekend shows this Oct)to leave the west end for good.Avoid folks if you value your money !!!!Only the encore gets any reaction from the audience and 40 odd quid is a lot to pay for that! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (64.12.97.13)27 Apr 03
starstarstarstarstarSuch a brilliant show. Kim Ismay is fantastic as Tanya. I feel that the three current Dynamos are the best yet. Louise Plowright was magnificant as ever and I'm delighted Myra McFadyen has stayed on as she is so funny. Sophie is a bit weak in the vocal department though. But a stunning show. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (195.92.168.165)17 Apr 03
starThe current cast are so poor,no better than am dram ,the guy playing Sky is too bad for words. Alex Jay whom was good in MFL is truly dire as Sophie and Plowright is so stale now when she turns up that is and shows no ambition staying in this sloppy show!!AVOID AVOID AVOID - USER: Whatsonstage.com (64.12.97.13)11 Apr 03
starstarstarstarstarI have seen the show twice now, & it's still full of energy. Alex Jay was excellent -as was the rest of the cast & orchestra. There's certainly no sign of this show flagging. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (212.159.90.129)10 Apr 03
starThe people that buy the ticketds for this are not regular theatregoers but guess simpletons that put up with anything as long as the abba songbook is played by any old joker that the disgraceful produers employ. And since Feb 17th the lead Laura Michelle Kelly has left her contract early for pastures new,but all the folk in the theatre till March 17th will get an understudy Sophie Shona White who in my opinion is very poor and not good enough to get the lead role as a new Sophie starts soon Alex Jay(why nopt shona Littlestar???!!!)and are only informed of this an hour before the show by a notice ,as if Laura is ill and not left the show and have no damn chance of seeing her at all,but her pics are still in the programme as they are too tight to print new programmes and still on the cast list-Should not be allowed but will any of the bozos who turn up night after night complain!!Not a chance blissfully unware and still happy going home humming Gimme Gimme your money!!or is that what the producers have renamed that song!! How very sad for theatre!! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (205.188.209.78)28 Feb 03
starstarstarstarstarit was so spectacular every1 was up singing and dancing i really enjoyed the voices of the singers were so strong they really overwelemed me. excellent!!!! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (212.159.54.116)26 Feb 03

starstarstarstarstarYou either hate it or you love it! In my opinion it's the latter. A wonderful show and stunning cast - USER: Whatsonstage.com (195.92.168.175)27 Jan 03
starPlease tell me that the news that the awful Laura Kelly who murders the Abba songbook is about to get to grips with Lerner and Leowe is a joke!! There cant be a GOD if this is true,Has Cam MAck gone deaf!! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (205.188.209.78)19 Jan 03
star3 Understudis on in main roles yesterday and does Louise Plowright ever actually do the show. And the replacements are poor to say the least, who ever told David J Higgins he could sing??? and what an ugly bunch the 3 fathers are anyway,If I was sophie I would be embarrassed to have anything to do with any of them. The girl playing Sophie,Laura Kelly is a weak singer and have to agree with a few negative message below about her. Iwould avoid this show to teach the producers a lesson and not be so complacements and get the bloody lead actors on stage for all perfs,as they are not ill in my experience either. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (205.188.209.78)05 Jan 03
starstarstarstarstarYou just cannot get enough of this amazing show!! Was a shame not to see the wonderful Louise Plowright as Donna as her understudy Claire Massie is not as strong vocally and doesn't fall into the role as easily as Louise does. Even so she is still worth seeing. Laura Kelly is a fabulous Sophie and I'm sorry to hear that she is leaving the show in March. However Louise is definitely staying so that's a definite plus!! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (195.92.168.164)02 Jan 03
starA show run by money grabbing amateurs who always have understudies in nearly every performance, which does not surprise me as they seem to shun there leads in any case as they use the broadway sophie and sky in the UK adversts WHY? the brochure at the RIP OFF price of £8 does not feature any of the London cast only Plowright only becuase she has been in the show forever and I feel is very stale now and fr he own sanity should look for pastures new. Julian Poole(BAND) is listed in the £2.50 programme and has been in WWRY for months-they are so lucky this lot to have the ABBA songs the only draw that this show has the rest is a shambles. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (217.34.243.227)08 Dec 02
starstarEnjoyed the show very much. But feel the lead(SOPHIE) Laura Michelle Kelly is very poor with one of the weakest voices i have ever heard in the West end. Thankfully the wonderful Louise Plowright makes up for Kelly's weakness. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (205.188.209.78)07 Dec 02
starstarstarstarstar5+ actually!! I saw this show for the third time at the end of October. I don't live anywhere near London so it costs loads to travel down and everything but to be honest when you're seeing a show as amazing as this then it doesn't really matter. The music is great, the set is simple yet effective, the story works well but the best thing about this show is the fantastic cast. They really work well together, especially Donna and the dads. Laura Michelle Kelly is excellent. I saw MM! in Feb last year with Amanda Salmon as Sophie and in my opinion Laura is just as good in the role if not better. But without a doubt the star of the show has to be Louise Plowright. She's just sensational. She's so believable in the role and plays it so perfectly. And her rendition of The Winner Takes It All is extremely moving and just fab!! I've read about the cast changes in March or whenever they're happening and I just hope that the leads stay with the show, especially Louise. This is a must see show. Abbasolutely fantastic!!:D - USER: Whatsonstage.com (195.92.168.163)24 Nov 02
starstarstarstarstarOnly see it if Laura Kelly is on as Sophie as she is incredible and the best musical actress in London by a long way,the supporting cast is fab is especially Shona White and the truly scrumptious Michelle Potter. Mamma Mia is in amazing shape for a 3 year old music, cant be said for the boring stale Phantom and the panto Les Miz has turned into. And MM is the only really sell out show in the west end too which it truly deserves to be. Saw it yday in another fab sell out performance-Go see Laura you wont be disappointed!! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (152.163.189.203)10 Nov 02
starstarstarstarThis show is just fantastic. I wasn't too keen on Abba music before I saw Mamma Mia and only went to see it because my friend needed someone to go with. I wasn't too keen but now having seen it I can honestly say I had one of the best nights of my life. Go see it. The cast are amazing! The lead lady, i forget her name as I didn't buy a programme, was absolutely outstanding. And pretty hot too!! What a show. I've already booked to go again. - USER: Whatsonstage.com16 Oct 02
starThis show does have a lot of understudies-3 Today. the star lead Sophie-Laura Michelle Kelly will have had 3 weeks holiday in 5 when she returns from her current holiday starting tomorrow and will not return till Sept 30th. I know cast are entitled to holidays etc ,but I think the producers of this show are very unfair that they do not make the holidays of leads known to the public like Chitty and My Fair Lady do. Mamma Mia must be the only show that does not list the understudy list until 60 mins before the show and do agree they are arrogant to think that the public do not care about seeing leads, they do must keep quiet and who listens anyways-loads of gripes and surveys on WOS over the past year but who really listens who matters and does not stop ticket prices rising. - USER: Whatsonstage.com21 Sep 02
starTo the person that i dont think has actualy seen the show below ,god you need help girlie! as if you had really seen this load of tosh with a lazy cast that can hardly be bothered to ever turn up and must have more undersrtudies on stage than any other london show always somebody skiving or on holiday usually Kelly,Basleigh and Plowright. Surely you dont actually mean the sad comments about the greatness of the show to be serious!!!HA HA so funny that message is!! ,well all i can say if you really mean those comments and your are not just trying to be funny is Get SOME GOD DAMN HELL PRETTY QUICK BUT IT IS NOT TOO LATE. Mammma Mia is a sad excuse of a show and all the producers and staff care about is the colour of your money and very little else! Thank god the public have woken up and it is no longer a sell out! - USER: Whatsonstage.com20 Sep 02
starstarstarstarstarJust a word to 05 April 2002. How may a person with such a low level of education and intelligence ( very obvious in the grammar and spelling), possibly be aware of the brilliance in conception, arrangement and delivery of what must be the definitive works of the most successful band of all time. I would imagine that he/she is more at home with Roy (Chubby foulmouth) Brown or Bernard Manning. The whole show is a shining example of celebration of the finest aspects of lyric and musical arrangement performed by the best in stage entertainers and should be seen as a landmark in British musical theatre. - USER: Whatsonstage.com25 Aug 02

starI WOULD LIKE TO OFFER A BIT OF ADVICE FOR ANYONE WANTING TO SEE THIS SHOW,I UNDERSTAND AND FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE THAT THE BEST THING ABOUT THIS SHOW-LOUISE PLOWRIGHT DOES NOT SEEM TO PERFORM AT ANY FRIDAY 5PM PERFORMANCE AND ALSO IT IS HARD TO SEE THE PRINCIPAL SOPHIE AT THIS PERFORMANCE TOO IN MY EXPERIENCE,AND IF YOU COMPLAIN ALL YOU WILL GET IF THE VERY BIASED TERMS AND CONDITIONS QUOTED AT YOU AS A LAME DEFENCE. ALSO AT THE PERFORMANCE I ATTENDED SOME OF THE BAND TALKED AT VARIOUS INTERVALS DURING THE SHOW AND I WAS IN THE FRONT ROW B,WHICH I WOULD AVOID,IT USED TO BE GOOD VALUE BUT EARLIER THIS MONTH IT WAS PUT UP TO £37.50 FROM £22.50 AND IT NOT WORTH IT AS THE VIEW AND THE SOUND ARE VERY BAD FROM THERE,AND THEY STILL HAVE THE CHEEK TO PUT "VIEW MAY BE RESTRICTED"ON THE TICKET,WELL IF SO A £2.50 REDUCTION FROM TOP PRICE IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH. I WAS VERY UNHAPPY WITH MY EXPERIENCE OF THIS SHOW AND THE RESPONSE OF THE PRODUCERS WHEN I COMPLAINED. - USER: Whatsonstage.com10 Apr 02
starWhy the hell people queue for this load of rubbish is I guess only because of the music and the band which do though have a nasty habit of chatting between songs which i found highly annoying. The cast of this show are very second rate,Louise Plowright trys her best with the little bit of talent she has and the new Sophie-Laura Michelle Kelly is very poor with one of the weakest lead voices i have heard on a london stage for a long time-and dont get me started on the 3 fathers=Abysmal is the only word i can muster-It is the shame the Abba boys dont spend some of there millions on a decent cast and in my opinion stop ripping off the public with such a poor quality cast and I understand at the 5pm show on a friday I was told you get the understudy Sophie and Donna-surely they cant be worse than the main leads-God Forbid!! - USER: Whatsonstage.com05 Apr 02

starstarstarstarstarI saw Mamma Mia! back in February and ever since I've been begging my mum to tkae me down to London so I can see it again. It is an amazing show and it puts a whole new slant on the Abba songs. Louise Plowright is totally fantastic! She makes it what it is. Her redition of The Winner Takes It All nearly had me in tears. She's great. Can't wait to see the new cast (glad Louise has stayed on!!). It's brill! - USER: Whatsonstage.com19 Mar 02
starstarstarstarstarSaw the show last night and can see why it is still as popular as ever. It was the first night of the new cast and Laura Michelle Kelly as Sophie especially was amazing she was made for this part, with the sweetest voice in the west end and a truly beautiful girl. The ABBA songs are so incredible and dont sound dated at all and played by such a fantastic band including a great guitarist called Keith Aiery who has performed with many artists including Tom Jones,Nik Kershaw and David Cassidy. Worth going just for the band but with the amazing actors on stage a great bonus ,in a fun and lively 2 hours 35 mins, the finale is so electric and dont know how they found the energy last night after doing the show twice yday,as they did a full dress rehearsal in the afternoon. I think it was kind of an opening night and spotted a few celebs-Anna Chancelloe,Shibohn Redmond(Holby City) and Emily Bruni. Without doubt Mamma Mia is a must see show and i plan to see it as many times as i can while the great Ms Kelly is in the show. - USER: Whatsonstage.com19 Mar 02

starstarstarstarstarWe saw Mama Mia lst night and all i can say is fantastic, Louise was brilliant as was most of the cast. If you havn't seen it then do yourself a favour and go !! - USER: Whatsonstage.com06 Feb 02
starstarstarstarstarThis is a must see for any true ABBA fan! I challenge any non ABBA fan to see it-I guarantee you'll be bewitched by the magic of ABBA's music too. This was a real "feel good all over" musical...leaves you dancing in the aisles and singing along even after the music stops! In these troubled times, the world can all use Mamma Mia to forget their troubles for a while. - USER: Whatsonstage.com28 Dec 01
starstarstarstarstarIt's hot! As a musical it works...it's clever, poignant, funny and deliberately tongue in cheek. You are at a loss if you haven't seen it. Staging is sparse, set is minimal but the performances are top notch and the songs cut through everything like a laser beam. It's fun, it's frivolous but above all it's highly highly enjoyable!!! - USER: Whatsonstage.com02 Dec 01
starstarstarstarThis show came highly recommended and it was a lot of fun! We kept waiting to see how they were going to incorporate the songs. I agree it helps to know the music. I especially liked the encore when the cast came out and performed two additional songs. It was a special end to our visit to London. - USER: Whatsonstage.com24 Jul 01
starstarSorry to sound a negative note in amongst so much praise but after months of waiting excitedly to see this the end result came as a major disappointment. Yes, the songs are great but that's a given from the start. The story and script are both very middle-of-the-road (they should have asked someone like Jonathan Harvey or even Victoria Wood to write something with a bit more of a camp spark) and I cringed at some of the more over-the-top performances and T-H-E-A-T-R-I-C-A-L deliveries of the older cast members. If the thought of divers dancing around wearing flippers makes you laugh then go and see it; if you prefer your humour slightly less Hi-de-Hi and slightly more Frasier then I wouldn't waste your money. - USER: Whatsonstage.com12 Jun 01
starstarstarstarstarGreat show! If I should find some critique it would be that the show is a bit too sentimental. The music is so good so the staging could have been more up to date. It felt a bit too retro. But still a 5 star show. - USER: Whatsonstage.com06 Jun 01
starstarstarEasygoing,tongue-in-cheek,fun show. - USER: Whatsonstage.com30 Apr 01
starstarstarstarstarThe show was wonderful, the atmosphere electric. Worth every penny and more! - USER: Whatsonstage.com27 Apr 01
starstarstarstarstarThis is just such a 'feel-good' show that you cannot fail to come out without a smile on your face. Although a liking of Abba music will probably enhance the enjoyment of the performance , it certainly shouldn't be taken as a pre-requisite for going to see it. The songs and script have been cleverly intertwined , to make it both laugh-out-loud funny and poignant at the same time. Overall , the choice of songs is excellent (with the possible exception of one - 1st scene, second act)and for those bemoaning the omission of 'Waterloo' there is reference to it , if you look for it! I've now seen the show 3 times and there's been a fresh take on something each time. A change in cast sometimes interferes with your exepctations 2nd time round but I can honestly say that some of the second cast are an improvement on the first! So what are you waiting for?
