| The day after the election of a new Pope it was fascinating to see this interesting play about the impact of Poland's restictive anti-abortion laws on a gynaecologist, his son and the girlfriend they share. The tone of Anna Wakulik's is occasionally a bit too frivolous for such a serious subject but mostly she superbly conveys the effects of laws that many would regard as repressive on a population for whom the church still plays such a major role. Sinead Matthews is particularly impressive as the confused and conflicted Marysia and her unique voice makes her especially convincing as the younger version of the character. A Time to Reap may last only 90 minutes but it makes much more of an impact than the dross the Royal Court is serving up downstairs. - David Baxter | 15 Mar 13 |
