| I think we're being a little OTT, rds! Others have been here before (Carol Churchill's 'Serious Money' for one) and the credit crunch makes it more 'recent history' than 'hot topic'. There are so many scenes, that seem to take forever to change, that the dramatic flow is dampened. Having said all of that, it brings an interesting perspective on this dog-eat-dog world (the effect on the trader's personal lives) and has some good writing and some great performances. The young lad who plays Donny's son is sensational and almost steals the show, but the rest are so good he doesn't get away with it! Well worth a visit, but not a West End transfer. As with Alex, there seemed to be a significant number of traders in the house - but listening to them as I left the theatre, they seemed to be enjoying the recognition rather than disturbed by the reflections. - Gareth James | 18 Jan 09 | |
| Having seen two new plays recently, F**king Men and In a Dark, Dark House, and been disappopinted with both of them it was an absolute joy to find this terrific offering at the Soho theatre. A top notch cast delivers Steve Thompson's witty, ascerbic and somewhat prophetic take on a city traders life with such aplomb and arrogant self-confidence that it positively hurts! Andrew Scott is undoubtedly the star of the show - what a talent! But he is also well supported by his talented co-stars, each have their moments and it is altogether terrific ensemble playing. I cannot recommend this play too highly. If it doesn't get a West End transfer then there is no justice in the world! Go see for yourself. - rds | 17 Jan 09 |
