Snake in the Grass (Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough)

| Almost totally successful in its own terms, Snake in the Grass suffers from no excess of ambition. Its length, for instance, is that of a football match and, if it tells us less about human nature, it serves up thrills and laughs much more reliably. Ian Watson, I feel, is a tad harsh on the performances (aside from the superb Susie Blake); in particular, did Rachel Atkins' odd accent and delivery not indicate that the character was herself playing a role? - USER: Whatsonstage.com | 23 Jul 02 |
