starstarOnly 2 stars as I felt what was on show was rubbish - sort of university drama department effort but, and it's a big but, it does have potential. There was too much of a Andy Nyman's irritating professor Goodman to start with and too few scary bits. However, it did make me think why someone else hasn't tried this idea before, The Woman In Black excepted. With a major rewrite, lots more scary bits, then I would not be surprised if a run in the West End would not be out of the question. Oh, and why the Jewish thing? That should be dropped for starters. But apart from that I wish them all good luck their original piece of theatre. - rds08 Apr 10
starstarstarstarTerrific ! A wonderful interpretation of what they are cleverly and accurately calling 'a staged nightmare'. The stagecraft is stunning, the acting great and the music really adds something. Well done to the Lyric for linking up with this inventive Icelandic company. - 81.129.166.108)23 Oct 06
starstarstarstarA wonderfully moving rendition of Kafka's even more moving masterpiece. The set was fantastic, and the acrobatic skills used to indicate the insect that Gregor has turned into were enthralling. Personally I think the relationship between Gregor and Grete could have been explored further - Gregor adored his sister, saving up money for her to go to the conservertoire; later it was his fascination with her violin playing that was his ultimate downfall - a poignant moment as it was also the time that this precious sister of his turned against him so viciously. Overall, an experience not to be missed. Finally,I must say that I loved hearing Nick Cave's voice at the end; his darkness suits the dark nature of the story and the play. - 88.144.21.113)19 Oct 06
starstarstarstarstarOutstanding - sensitive and dramatic. I am visiting London and have seen 8 shows in 1 week - this is the finest piece so far. A small show, but creative and well acted and directed. Some say it's too obvious in its meaning at the end. Well, it's fascinating and a great achievement by this Icelandic company (in English)! - 212.18.232.59)08 Oct 06
starstarstarstarstarBrilliant! Vesturport's riveting and highly original take on the Kafka classic is by turns funny, horrifying, moving, spectacular....and ultimately hugely satisfying. Nick Cave's music is haunting, and the entire cast are superb, but especially the heartbreakingly beautiful Gisli Orn Gardarsson as the tragic Gregor. Also worthy of special mention is the astonishing set. All in all, this is an absolute triumph! - 195.82.123.181)07 Oct 06
