 | A very good production. If you love rock and roll, definitely something for you. OK, the storyplot is nothing special [if you want a drama climax, go for drama] but this cast are amazing. Real great singers and musicians. I wish I could play piano like the guy on stage. Not to forget the perfect drummer !! Catchy songs, perfect performing, dancing audience in the end. | Totally disagree with Michael Coveney this show was excellent the music was fantastic and had us ALL standing applauding at the end. All four of the performers that night were brilliant, Ben Goddard who played Jerry Lee was exceptional. As for the comment from the person on 9th April who was Sam Phillips? anyone who went to see the show would know who he was, we didn't need the programme to explain. The only thing i agreed about was Elvis' girlfriend she certainly wasn't called Dyane. this show hasn't earned the critics choice for nothing. - mojoq | 27 Aug 11 |
| Ok the music was good and I love Rock'n'Roll, but I didn't even feel like tapping my feet, it just didn't hit the spot. Let's just throw four guys together and make a show ... If you want to see four singers/musicians trying to sound like Elvis, Carl, Jerry Lee and Johnny Cash you can probably go down the pub. There was no story, who was Mr Phillips ? | well i thinks this show is great, now dont get me wrong when some say the story line is not all that, its cos it aint but on the other hand if you follow it like i did then even the story line is great. they are all fantastic performers its just ashame Robert Britton Lyons is leaving by the end of april to go back to the usa for a little break before rejoining the ny cast again any my point is its well worth seeing and you will regret it if you dont. - K. | I love this show.....its amazing...not only do we get to hear a great assortment of fabulous songs, from the 50s but we also get them performed to such a high standard its a pleasure to watch...oh yeah by the way im 23 years old...i love this era of music and to have another show that shows a different aspect of the era its great. I do not understand how Mr Coveney and others can call this show an impersonation show....and to say that Bill Wards portrayal is one dimensional...so how should Bill portray a typhical Tennasee music executive....should he be all quiet and coy...hell no cause thats not how Sam Phillips would have been, hed have grabbed life by the balls exactly in the same way that Bill plays him. Every single member of the cast are stunning....Derek as Johnny Cash...WOW....his version of Walk the line is stunning...Michael as Elvis...oh my god both times ive seen the show ive seen women swoon over him, because hes that believable in the role that for the show he is not Michael he is Elvis and every single person in that theatre believes it. Robert as Carl Perkins....best guitar player in the west end for sheer craziness,...But the star of the show is Ben Goddard, who is Jerry Lee Lewis....hes so insane with everything he does onstage you can tell hes knackered after about 10 mins in with the amount he puts in to just the first couple of songs, but does he give up and give a poor performance hell no...right up to the last song he is putting 10000% in. If this cast isnt up for the awards season next year, in at least the acting catagorys then its a joke...as someone else said yeah it may not be the best show in the west end in the sense of depth and script but in the end its based on a real life happening....how deep can you really get when its based on what it is. i defy anyone to go to the show and not come out smiling. | No this is not a big West End production but Million Dollar Quartet is great entertainment providing an evening of nostalgic rock and roll music, a good narrative on what was happening at Sun Studios Memphis in 1956 and a wonderful opportunity to showcase a telented group of musicians and singers. Sorry Mr Coveney rock and roll is not about the overstaged hype we see so often on the London stage it is about real music performed by talented performers. | Well I disagree with Mr Coveney. Though not the best Rock n Roll show I have seen but nevertheless it was good. All the lads playing the famous were very good and multi talented and as this was my era, it was great listening to many of my favourite songs. Well worth going to see for a bit of nostalgia and for over 2 hours you can forget your worries and just be transported to Memphis in a bygone time that is still as popular today (seeing that so many young people in the audience) - Joe Spiteri | 03 Mar 11 |
| I was there on press night and thought this show was INCREDIBLE! We were all buzzing afterwards. I think this reviewer completely missed the point. This is NOT some crappy impersonation show and calling it a pub tribute is inane... it's a bunch of actors with great musical talent rocking out and showing a SNAPSHOT of what it might have been like at that time and place. Of course some liberties have been taken, but it's giving the people what they want. What this reviewer doesn't like is exactly what this show boasts: it is unashamedly an excuse to have a party. Go to this show if you enjoy life and music. Do not go to this show if you are a cynical jaded theatre snob!!! - Jane | 02 Mar 11 |
| This is an ok show. The performances were energetic and the audience appeared to en joy themselves. However the story is flimsy and how this show could have been Tony nominated is a mystery. | I have to say that, for once, I agree with Mr Coveney's review. I found the show to be boring and extremely banal. Bill Ward's acting is extremely one dimensional. | I am looking forward to seeing the show, but it's about time Mr Coveney found a job he actually enjoys. Can't WOS find someone who actually enjoys musical entertainment to review musicals. | I thought Mr Coveney's review was scathing and downright cruel (please read the Guardan review of this show Mr Coveney, that's how you critique constructively!)I thoroughly enjoyed the show, and even though that era of music doesn't appeal to my taste, you could not fault the brilliant talent of the performers on that stage. Apparently the full house audience get up and dance round the aisles during the show (as they did when I saw it last week) I advise people to ignore this review and go see some brilliant performances and I'm sure Mr Coveney will have a better time tonight at the over homogenised 'Wizard Of Oz' - Claire Felan | 01 Mar 11 |
