Synopsis

I saw this play on Friday 27th completely new to the work of Nelson Rodrigues and although the brief synopsis did not entirely excite me, I was transfixed from the start. The acting from all the company is completely convincing, showing the tragic lives of all involved and the way we use and abuse each-other in search of our own happiness. I was told by a friend that Nelson Rodrigues had to die before his homeland Brazil acknowledged that he was in fact an excellent playwright. Although this play was written in the 60s it contains many aspects that will touch the audience today, sometimes in those hidden parts of our being. Even the character Geni’s obsession of her impending death from breast cancer is very poignant, even now. The intimate setting of the Union perfectly supports this important play and powerful piece of theatre. ...
