Could Ladykillers be plotting West End return?Date: 20 February 2013 Graham Linehan's acclaimed adaptation of classic Ealing comedy The Ladykillers, which on Sunday won the Whatsonstage.com Award for Best New Comedy, could be making a return to the West End later this year.
Our mole at the Awards post-show party (held at the Radisson Blu Edwardian in Leicester Square) reports that plans are afoot for a second West End run - possibly at the Vaudeville Theatre or its original home the Gielgud - following the show's current UK tour.
The Ladykillers opened at the West End's Gielgud Theatre on 7 December 2011 (previews from 26 November 2011) following a try-out run at Liverpool Playhouse.
Based on the 1955 BAFTA-winning comedy which starred Alec Guinness, the story sees the life of an eccentric little old lady turned upside down by an unlikely group of criminals. Planning the heist of a security van, they decide to use her as cover and involve her unwittingly in the plot. Things do not go well and start to unravel in spectacular and hilarious fashion.
Directed by Sean Foley, the original West End cast featured Peter Capaldi, James Fleet, Ben Miller, Clive Rowe and Stephen Wight with Marcia Warren as the unwitting widdow Mrs Wilberforce.
