West leads My Fair Lady to London?

Date: 4 January 2013

Looks like Sheffield Theatres' acclaimed production of My Fair Lady could be London-bound. Starring Dominic West as Henry Higgins and Carly Bawden as Eliza Doolittle, the production opened in the Crucible Theatre last month (18 December 2012) where it continues until 26 January.

Directed by artistic director Daniel Evans, the production marks Wire star West's musical theatre debut.

Lerner and Loewe's classic musical, adapted from George Bernard Shaw’s play Pygmalion, features the songs "On The Street where you Live", "With a Little Bit of Luck" and "I Could have Danced all Night".

The cast also features Anthony Calf as Colonel Pickering, Martyn Ellis as Alfred Doolittle, Richenda Carey as Mrs Higgins and Nicola Sloane as Mrs Pearce.

According to the Daily Mail, a London transfer could happen in May, when West is available to repeat his performance for a "limited London season". According to Baz Bamigboye, "West End theatre owners have been scrambling" to stage the transfer. "Everything is up for discussion while availability, rights - and a theatre - are being sorted," he adds.
