Robert Lindsay's Charge to Camelot Faces Delays???Date: 27 May 2011 According to Baz Bamigboye in today's Daily Mail, Nick Scandalios, executive vice-president of Broadway giant the Nederlander Organisation, had hoped this year to revive Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe’s 1960 Broadway musical Camelot at the Adelphi Theatre. The production would star Robert Lindsay, most recently on the West End stage in last year's Onassis, as King Arthur with David Leveaux directing. But plans, which would have included cutting the weighty book back to concentrate on songs including "How to Handle a Woman" and “What Would the Simple Folk Do”, have been put on hold.
Camelot was revived on Broadway in 1980 and 1993, touring the US in 2007. In London, it was mounted at the Open Air Theatre, Regent’s Park in 2004, having premiered in the West End in 1964 at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane starring Laurence Harvey as Arthur, Elizabeth Larner as Guenevere and Barry Kent as Lancelot. The show's 1967 film version starred Richard Harris and Vanessa Redgrave. Currently at the Adelphi, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Love Never Dies is booking until 14 January 2012.
