Lloyd Webber Readies Jesus Christ Superstar for World Arena Tour???

Date: 10 March 2011

With opening The Wizard of Oz out of the way, might Andrew Lloyd Webber now turn his attention to a large-scale revival one of his own hit musicals? Speaking in a series of recent interviews Lord Lloyd-Webber has hinted he is developing a major arena tour of his 1972 show Jesus Christ Super Star. Written in collaboration with Tim Rice and launched as a concept album in 1970, the show debuted on Broadway in '71, opening in London a year later. The show was last seen in the UK when it was toured by producer Bill Kenwright in 2004. That production saw Glenn Carter in the role of Jesus alongside pop singer James Fox as Judas. This time around Lloyd Webber has said demo tapes have been coming in from major artists around the world. Who will be cast for the mammoth restaging, which Lloyd Webber hopes will play as many as 200 American arenas before making a trip to London's O2 on a world tour, remains to be seen.
