Cerveris Leads Sondheim's Road Show to Menier???Date: 19 November 2010 The Daily Mail is reporting that American Michael Cerveris, last seen on the London stage in Hedwig and the Angry Inch ten years ago, has been in discussions to reprise his role in Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman's musical Road Show for its UK premiere at the Menier Chocolate Factory next summer. Cerveris appeared in Road Show two years ago at New York's Public Theatre, where it was directed by John Doyle, who, the Mail reports, will also direct in London.
Road Show, which is speculated to open at the Menier in June or July, spans a period of 40 years, telling the story of two brothers whose quest for the American dream turns into a test of morality and judgement that changes their lives in unexpected ways. The musical, which has had several guises over the years, was described by the New York Times' Ben Brantley as a "trimmed-down, toughened-up and seriously darkened new edition of the musical formerly known as Bounce (in 2003) and Wise Guys (1999) and somewhere along the way, Gold."
