Feehily & Out of Joint Bring Kabul to Sloane Square???

Out of Joint's artistic director Max Stafford-Clark was the recipient of the TMA's Special Award for Individual Achievement at last night's TMA Theatre Awards at the Lyric Hammersmith (7 November 2010). Speaking whilst accepting his award from former director of the National Theatre Richard Eyre Stafford-Clark praised the work of his playwright wife Stella Feehily revealing that her play Think Global, Fuck Local would be produced by Out of Joint at the Royal Court in 2011. The play, which was produced for two nights at the Theatre Upstairs in July 2008 as part of the Rough Cuts season, examines behind the public face of UN and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO) workers whilst abroad.

Marketing material for the show's Rough Cuts run says "Kabul’s like fucking Ibiza now. Heaving with pretty Sloaney girls. Quite good clubs. Plenty of drugs. I’m too old for all that now.” Continuing: "Humanitarians. By day saving the world. At night they drink, party – move on. And then, some time, they have to go home." As a company, Out of Joint are no strangers to tackling controversial subjects. Their last production, staged at the Lyric Hammersmith, told the story of Irish Americans in New York and a young fireman joining the IRA. Feehily's other plays Duck and O Go My Man were both performed as co-productions by Out of Joint and the Royal Court Theatre.
