Coronation Street Play Looks for London Home???

Date: 20 August 2010

Corrie!, the stage adaptation of Coronation Street which condenses 7,400 episodes of the UK's longest running soap into a two act play, is rumoured to be looking for home for a possible West End transfer. The Sun reports that producers have been "blown away" by the popularity of the show at The Lowry, Salford, and are now approaching West End theatres about bringing the show to London. Talking about the move, a source told The Sun: "We're in talks with London theatres and we hope to have something tied up soon." The show, which opened in Greater Manchester on Monday (16 August 2010, previews from 12 August) was adapted for the stage by Corrie writer Jonathan Harvey and features a cast of five actors playing iconic characters from The Street throughout the decades. If the show was to transfer to London, it would follow in the footsteps of Bad Girls, a musical based on ITV1's television series which enjoyed a short-lived West End run in the autumn of 2007.
