This time last year Andrew Lloyd Webber began the search for Nancy in BBC1 reality show I’d Do Anything, but immediately dashed the hopes of drama school wannabes by announcing he wanted an Amy Winehouse-a-like victor.
Jodie Prenger, the eventual winner, in no way resembles the “Rehab” singer, but this time round it looks like Lloyd Webber is determined to get his Amy in new show Over the Rainbow, his quest to find a Dorothy and Toto for his forthcoming production of The Wizard of Oz (See News, 11 Sep 2009).
As the first auditions got underway in Glasgow on Saturday (9 January 2010), the composer again spoke of his desire to find a young Winehouse, even if round one audition songs “Over the Rainbow” and “Off to See The Wizard” couldn't be further from “Back to Black.” In an interview with the Sun, he said, “anyone like Avril Lavigne or a bit like Amy Winehouse or something along those lines would be great.”
“Okay, she probably won't have strange green hair or anything”, he continued, “but she'll be someone who would fit in on the streets here. She'll have attitude and probably have an iPod."
