Robert Lindsay Relives Aristo in West End???
Date: 10 November 2009
And speaking of
Martin Sherman (See Today’s Other
Goss),
Rose may not be the only play of his hitting the London stage in the new year. Plans are once again afoot to bring
Aristo, his play about Aristotle Onassis, to the West End with
Robert Lindsay reprising his title performance as the late Greek tycoon.
The play is based on the last years in the life of Onassis, including his complex connections and interwoven relationships with Kennedy, singer Maria Callas, Jackie Kennedy and his son Alexandros. Aristo had its world premiere last September in a production co-starring Elizabeth McGovern as Kennedy and Diana Quick as Callas and directed by Nancy Meckler.
Martin Sherman’s other plays include When She Danced, Some Sunny Day, Messiah, A Madhouse in Goa and, most famously, Bent, which was revived in the West End in 2006 with Alan Cumming.
