Is Wicked More Fun Than the London Eye???Date: 9 November 2009 Apples and oranges spring to mind, but nonetheless, it’s heartening to have further proof of the popularity of the West End and, more specifically, the West End phenomenon that is Wicked. In the “People’s Choice” category of this year’s Visit London Awards, voted for by the public – like our own Whatsonstage.com Awards (nominations now open - click here to nominate now!) – and announced last week, the blockbuster musical about the witches of Oz was named "Best Family Fun", beating off competition from top tourist attractions the London Eye, ZSL London Zoo and the Science Museum. Wicked wasn’t the only theatre-related winner in the tourist board’s People’s Choice Awards. West End Live, the two-day theatre festival held each summer in Trafalgar Square and sponsored by Whatsonstage.com, was dubbed “Hottest Music Event” and the Society of London Theatre’s (SOLT) Emma De Souza, who organises the West End’s annual Kids’ Week was named “London Hero”. Well done to Emma and all the Visit London winners. It’s efforts like theirs that ensure London retains its status as the theatre capital of the world. Got some goss?
