Young Vic's Annie Sets Sights on West End???
Date: 26 October 2009
At last week's Whatsonstage.com Outing to
Annie Get Your Gun at the Young Vic, artistic director
David Lan hinted that he's keen to transfer the critically-acclaimed revival, which stars
Jane Horrocks and
Julian Ovenden, to the West End.
At our post show Q&A with Lan and the cast, he said in response to a question regarding a potential transfer: "We would very much like to ... It depends on a number of factors, the most obvious of which is whether there is a theatre of the right size and the right shape available for us … But we would love it if there was."
When asked if he would take the production to the Midlands or further north his response was: "If you sort out the weather, yes."
Irving Berlin's classic Broadway musical has been given a radical reworking in Richard Jones' new production, which has attracted both rave reviews as well as its fair share of detractors (See Review Round-up, 19 Oct 2009). Horrocks and Ovenden lead the cast as Annie and Frank, the would-be lovers and sharp-shooting rivals.
