ENRON Follows Jerusalem to West End & NYC???
Date: 7 September 2009

ENRON, Lucy Prebble’s epic corporate fraud tragedy based on the 2001 collapse of the US energy company, has sold out of its current run at Chichester Festival Theatre as well as its upcoming London premiere season at the Royal Court, where it runs from 22 September to 7 November 2009 (previews from 17 September).

But, fear not, if you haven’t yet secured your tickets. The production is aiming for a West End transfer this winter, followed by a Broadway opening next April.

Rupert Goold’s Headlong Theatre production, which stars Samuel West as ENRON president Jeffrey Skilling, premiered to rave reviews in July (See Review Round-up, 23 Jul 2009). The cast also features Tim Pigott-Smith] as chairman Ken Lay, Amanda Drew as a fictional executive and Tom Goodman-Hill as Fastow, a financial whizz-kid.

Meanwhile, transfer plans are firming up for the last production to reside in the Royal Court’s Jerwood Theatre Downstairs: the premiere of Jez Butterworth's latest play, Jerusalem, which finished its run last month. According to Variety, it will reopen in the West End this coming January, after which it too may move on to Broadway.

Mark Rylance – who, in the meantime, is tied up filling in for Richard Briers in Endgame, which runs from 2 October to 5 December 2009 at the West End’s Duchess Theatre (See News, 13 Aug 2009) – and the rest of the cast, including Mackenzie Crook, are expected to reprise their performances.
