Harewood Climbs Mountaintop in West End???Date: 3 July 2009 David Harewood is preparing to reprise his hit Fringe performance as Martin Luther King in The Mountaintop in the West End (See News, 28 May 2009). According to the Daily Mail, Katori Hall’s two-hander, which just finished its month-long run at Theatre503 in south London this past Saturday, is likely to transfer imminently, with final negotiations between producers and West End venue owners taking place last week. Hall’s new play is set in King’s Memphis hotel room on the eve of his assassination, a night when the civil rights leader is forced to confront his past and the future of his people when a mysterious maid (played by Lorraine Burroughs) visits him. Harewood is best known to theatregoers for his leading Shakespearean credits for the RSC, National and elsewhere while his many screen credits include the film Blood Diamond. The Mountaintop is directed by James Dacre, son of Daily Mail editor Paul Dacre. Got some goss? Contact gossip@whatsonstage.comRelated Content
