Anna Friel in Line for Breakfast at Haymarket ???

Date: 1 May 2009

Further details have emerged regarding the long-rumoured forthcoming West End production of Breakfast at Tiffany's (See The Goss, 27 Dec 2008). According to today's Daily Mail, playwright Samuel Adamson (Southwark Fair, All About My Mother, Little Eyolf) is working on a new version based on Truman Capote's original 1958 novella, and there is already a name being mooted for the role of Holly Golightly - former Brookside and Pushing Daisies star Anna Friel.

However, it appears Trevor Nunn, who was originally attached to direct, is no longer on board, with Theatre Royal Haymarket director Sean Mathias - currently helming Waiting for Godot starring Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen - now in place instead. Another name attached is American actor Joseph Cross, best-known for his work in films Milk and Running With Scissors, who is tipped to star alongside Friel.

According to the Mail, "the plan is for Breakfast at Tiffany's to be the second production in Mathias' season at the Theatre Royal Haymarket", where Waiting for Godot began previews last night (opening on 6 May). It continues to 26 July, so it would be safe to assume the Breakfast at Tiffany's - if it goes ahead - will open there later in the summer.
