McKenzie Latest to Join Royal Family???Date: 20 August 2001 Julia McKenzie is expected to feature in the already impressively starred version of The Royal Family this Autumn. The production of Edna Ferber and George Kaufman's showbiz comedy already boasts Dame Judi Dench, Harriet Walter and Peter Bowles among its cast. The play, which was inspired by America’s first family of theatre, the Barrymores, opens at the West End’s Haymarket Theatre on 1 November 2001. However, Dame Judi’s commitment to starring as M in the next James Bond film, means that an extension beyond its February 2002 close would be unlikely. Julia McKenzie is one of Britain’s leading ladies, having enjoyed a major career in musical theatre. After attending the Guildhall School of Music, she made her name via such shows as Mame, Company and Side By Side By Sondheim. McKenzie is also established in straight theatre, and is a familiar face from such TV series as Maggie and Her and Fresh Fields.
