Intimacy Film Heads for the Stage???

The recently released movie Intimacy, notorious before its arrival for depicting graphic sex scenes, could be heading for the stage. The film, which stars The Globe's artistic director Mark Rylance and actress Kerry Fox, provoked predictable moral outrage in certain quarters when it opened in the UK last month. However, the London theatre troupe Wisepart Productions are believed to have negotiated with the story's author, Hanif Kureishi, to prepare a theatre version for next summer's Edinburgh Fringe. The play's directors may do well to recall that laws governing what's appropriate for stage viewing are rather less flexible than those for the screen. Despite a fairly muted critical response, the Intimacy film has already picked up two awards at the Berlin Film Festival for Best Film and Best Actress (for Fox).
