Northern Ballet to Premiere Streetcar???
Date: 9 August 2001
The highly acclaimed Northern Ballet Theatre (NBT) company are believed to be preparing a version of
A Streetcar Named Desire for a tour later this year. A notable ballet version of the play by Valerie Bettis has also been performed many times by different companies. It originally starred Frederic Franklin and Mia Slavenska. Dance Theatre of Harlem has performed it too, with an all African-American cast. The play will also feature in its traditional theatre setting, starring Glenn Close, at the National next year. NBT employs a workforce of around 100 people, ranging from admin staff to dancers and musicians. Regular international tours, and a commitment to adventurous projects, have earned it an enviably high regard on the world stage. Future planned productions for the team also include
Dracula and
A Christmas Carol.
