Paltrow, Weisz or Winslet for West End Proof???Date: 23 July 2001 Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Winslet and Rachel Weisz are believed to be three names under consideration for a West End production of David Auburn's award-winning drama Proof. The play, which picked up the 2001 Tony Award for Best Play, is currently playing at the Walter Kerr Theatre in New York after transferring from Off Broadway's Manhattan Theater Club. It was also Tony-nominated in four other categories. Weisz recently starred in the London Almeida Theatre's world premiere of Neil LaBute's The Shape of Things, whilst Winslet last appeared on stage here at an Old Vic reading of The Vagina Monologues. Paltrow's career began on the stage, but she is better known for her roles in such films as Se7en, Emma and Shakespeare In Love. Auburn's play also won the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and concerns an energetic young woman named Catherine whose genius father had been a renowned mathematician.
