Martine Eyes Up American Fair Lady???Date: 15 June 2001The frequently absent Eliza, Martine McCutcheon, played all eight performances of My Fair Lady at the National last week for the first time since the production opened. She looks set to repeat the feat this week. Cynics might wonder if this current presenteeism has anything to do with the arrival of Alan Eisenberg, the hard-nosed head of American Equity. Eisenberg is in London considering which UK productions eyeing a Broadway transfer really require their British casts. He's renowned for blocking transatlantic exchanges. Most recently, American Equity rejected the full cast transfer of the National's Cherry Orchard on the basis that the Redgraves, in their opinion, weren't big enough stars. Could it be that Martine doesn't want her ill health to count against her seeing her name in Broadway lights? Related Content |
