More Carnage with Richard E Grant???
Date: 6 October 2008

Yasmina Reza’s new comedy God of Carnage was one of the big hits of the spring in the West End, with a record-breaking six-week run at the Gielgud Theatre. Rather than recast the four-hander – which starred Ralph Fiennes, Tamsin Greig, Ken Stott and Janet McTeer – producers David Pugh and Dafydd Rogers decided to “finish on a high” in London in June ahead of a planned Broadway premiere next year (See News, 2 May 2008).

However, according to the Sunday Times, London theatregoers who missed out the first time round, may have a second chance to see the show. A new production is reportedly being put together, with a cast led by Richard E Grant in the Fiennes role, which will embark on a brief regional tour before returning to a smaller West End playhouse.

God of Carnage revolves around two sets of parents who meet to discuss a playground altercation between their 11-year-old sons. The English-language premiere reunited for the first time the team behind French playwright Yasmina Reza’s Art, which ran for eight years in the West End - translator Christopher Hampton, director Matthew Warchus and producers Pugh and Rogers (as well as designer Mark Thompson, lighting designer Hugh Vanstone and composer Gary Yershon).
