Priscilla Pulls into Palace in March 2009???

Date: 13 June 2008

With Spamalot now confirmed to close on 3 January (See News, 2 Jun 2008), it’s looking increasingly likely that the UK premiere of the Australian screen-to-stage adaptation of The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert will make its West End home at the Palace Theatre. Today’s Daily Mail tips it to open there in March 2009, though no official announcement has been made about venue or exact dates.

The London production of Priscilla is co-produced by Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Really Useful Group, which also owns the Palace. When the transfer from Down Under was announced last autumn (See News, 4 Oct 2007), it was originally slated to open here in late 2008.

Based on the 1994 Oscar-winning Australian film, Priscilla centres on Sydney drag queen Mitzi and her two fish-out-of-water friends, Felicia and Bernardette, are heading west across the desert to Alice Springs in their battered old bus, lip-synching their way through a string of disco hits as they go. The stage version, by members of the film’s creative team, had its world premiere in Sydney in October 2006.
