Pete Doherty Reunites with Libertine to Write Musical???

Date: 4 March 2008

Troubled rock star Pete Doherty is in the theatrical rumour mill again. He and his former Libertines bandmate Carl Barat are reportedly starting work on a stage musical after being approached by the Donmar Warehouse where, if all goes to plan, the show could receive its world premiere in 2009. Barat and Doherty are putting together an outline for the rock ‘n’ roll story about an up-and-coming band struggling to make it to the top. The musical could feature up to 20 new songs written by the duo specifically for their new venture.

The former bandmates went their separate ways in 2004 following a stint in jail for Doherty after he was convicted of burgling Barat’s house. Since the Libertines split, Barat has formed the band Dirty Pretty Things and Doherty has gone on to front Babyshambles and become notorious for his drug-fuelled antics and for his doomed relationship with supermodel Kate Moss. The West End musical would be the first time the pair has worked together in four years, though sources say it does not signal any plans to reform the band.

Last year, Doherty reportedly expressed interest in penning a stage musical about star-crossed lovers in an effort to woo back his one-time fiancée Kate Moss (See The Goss, 7 Aug 2007).
