Who’s Greater: Michael Boyd or Stephen Fry???Date: 18 December 2007The Royal Shakespeare Company’s artistic director Michael Boyd - credited for turning around the RSC’s fortunes after Adrian Noble’s embattled tenure, not least with the year-long Complete Works Festival in Stratford, and Trevor Nunn’s sell-out Ian McKellen-headed production of King Lear, now in the West End – has been shortlisted in the Creative Industries category for the 2007 Morgan Stanley Great Britons Award. Nominated in the same category is Stephen Fry, the actor, comedian and writer whose new version of pantomime Cinderella has just premiered at the Old Vic. The Creative Industries Award celebrates achievements in wide-ranging “creative” fields including architecture, film production, broadcasting, fashion and design as well as the performing arts. Boyd and Fry are competing against Apple’s Jonathan Ive, who designed the iPhone. In total, 18 individuals have been nominated across all the Great Britons categories – also including Business, Campaigning and Public Life, Environment, Science and Innovations, and Sport. Winners will be announced next month. Related Content |
