Doctor Zhivago Musical Readies for October 2008???Date: 7 November 2007After Gone with the Wind, which takes place during the American Civil War, we can look forward to a musical adaptation of another war-set literary classic: Boris Pasternak's 1956 novel Doctor Zhivago, based around the Russian Revolution. According to the Daily Mail, it aims to premiere in London in October 2008. Broadway director Des McAnuff, who helms the West End production of his Stateside hit Jersey Boys in the spring, has been working on the project for five years. The new musical draws directly on Pasternak’s novel rather than David Lean’s 1965 film starring Omar Shariff and Julie Christie. It has music by Lucy Simon and lyrics by Michael Korie and Amy Power. Doctor Zhivago centres on the surgeon/poet Zhivago who marries a devoted upper-class wife but finds passion and inspiration outside his marriage with Lara, whose own revolutionary husband brings her heartache.
