Queen Helen Mirren Returns to Stage???
Date: 1 October 2007
Daily Mail columnist Baz Bamigboye has also recently reported that
Helen Mirren may be heading back to the theatre soon. She last appeared on the London stage alongside
Eve Best in Howard Davies’ 2003 National Theatre revival of Eugene O’Neill’s epic
Mourning Becomes Electra. Since then, her screen commitments in the likes of
The Queen, which of course won her this year’s Best Actress Oscar, have kept her rather busy.
However, according to Bamigboye, Mirren has been in talks with NT artistic director Nicholas Hytner to return to the South Bank in late 2008 or early 2009, if they can decide upon “the right play”. Mirren’s other NT credits include The Madness of George III, directed by Hytner, and less well received, Sean Holmes’ 1998 production of Antony and Cleopatra opposite Alan Rickman.
