Kwei-Armah Issues Statement of Regret at NT???Date: 10 August 2007Speaking of Kwame Kwei-Armah (See Today’s Other Goss), while David Ian’s Bob Marley musical may be keeping him busy in future, more immediately he’ll be returning to the National Theatre with his playwright’s hat on. Though it hasn’t yet been officially announced, his new play Statement of Regret - presumably a reference to Tony Blair’s 2006 “statement of regret” for Britain’s role in the slave trade – will premiere in November at the NT Cottesloe, where Kwei-Armah’s Elmina's Kitchen premiered in May 2003 and his follow-up, Fix Up, followed in December 2004. It will star Don Warrington as a member of a political think tank. At the Garrick Theatre in 2005, Warrington played Kwei-Armah’s feckless father when the former Holby City actor took to the stage personally for the West End transfer of Elmina's Kitchen (See News, 17 Mar 2005).
