Gershwins & Kurt Weill Next at Cadogan Hall???
Date: 8 August 2007
With the BBC Proms dominating the classical music schedule, August is a notoriously tricky month for London’s other concert venues. Cadogan Hall has decided to fill the downtime by producing its own less traditional fare – the
Good Thing Going: Simply Sondheim concert this week and a series of Charlie Chaplin films set to music next (See
News, 31 Jul 2007). The former, which stars Olivier Award winners
Maria Friedman and
Daniel Evans, opened last night and managed to lure several drama critics to Chelsea and away from the West End’s big opening of
Buddy.
If the series catches the imagination of audiences as well, musicals could feature more regularly on the menu at Cadogan Hall. Artistic director Ian Maclay – who got the idea for Simply Sondheim while watching Evans in Sunday in the Park with George in the West End last year – told Whatsonstage.com that they’re considering future revues fashioned around the songs of Kurt Weill and the Gershwins.
