CFT Babes in Arms Bound for London Too???Date: 16 July 2007 It’s not just the plays from this year’s Chichester Festival season that have their eyes on the West End prize (See Today’s Other Goss). We hear that Martin Connor’s revival of Rodgers and Hart’s rarely seen 1937 musical Babes in Arms may be heading to town too. The production finished a sell-out run at the Festival Theatre on 7 July (See News, 22 Feb 2007). Whether it does make it in will be dependent on a suitable venue opening up – and the producers’ ability to keep key cast members, including Lorna Luft (daughter of Judy Garland), available if and until that happens. The Broadway classic transports audiences back to the glory years of musical theatre, with a group of bright young things from a Cape Cod playhouse aiming to take their own show from their barn to Broadway. Well-known songs from the show include “The Lady Is a Tramp”, “My Funny Valentine” and “Johnny One Note”.
