Date: 5 June 2007
It’s been talked about for ages, but we hear that
Bad Girls The Musical, based on the ITV drama series about the lives and loves of staff and inmates in a women’s prison, really is now revving up for its West End premiere. Planned for many years, the adaptation finally premiered last June in a limited six-week season at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds (See
News, 4 Apr 2006). It’s written by the creators of the television series, with a book by
Maureen Chadwick and
Ann McManus, music and lyrics by
Kath Gotts. An idealistic new Wing Governor tries to make changes for the better on G Wing, but a dangerous mix of deception, romance, revenge and corrupt officers stand in her way. In Leeds,
Maggie Norris directed a cast including
Hannah Waddingham (now
Spamalot’s Lady of the Lake),
Laura Rogers,
Rachel Izen and
Hal Fowler.
