TV Casting Stays Alive for Saturday Night in 2008???Date: 9 May 2007 Queen may be opposed to the idea of reality TV casting for We Will Rock You (See News, 4 May 2007), but ITV – whose current offering, Grease Is the Word, is going head-to-head with BBC One’s Any Dream Will Do on Saturday nights – is hoping the BeeGees aren’t so picky. According to the Daily Mail, Robert Stigwood, the force behind Saturday Night Fever on stage and screen, has opened talks with ITV about casting a 2008 revival of the musical via a television competition. The stage production of Saturday Night Fever had its world premiere at the West End's London Palladium in May 1998, marking the 21st anniversary of the release of the 1977 film, starring John Travolta, which effectively defined the disco age. Since closing at the Palladium in February 2000, Saturday Night Fever has had several UK tours as well as a second, 19-month West End stint at the Apollo Victoria from July 2004 (See News, 29 Nov 2005). The musical features legendary Bee Gees songs from the original Grammy Award-winning motion picture soundtrack, including “Staying Alive”, “Night Fever”, “Jive Talkin'” and “How Deep is Your Love” as well as two songs – “Immortality” and “First and Last” - written for the stage by the brothers Gibb.
