That Face Attracts Transfer Attention???Date: 8 May 2007You may not yet have heard of Polly Stenham, but if so, that won’t be for long. The 20-year-old’s debut play That Face has become a sell-out sensation at the Royal Court Upstairs. It’s Rolls Royce cast (headed by Lindsay Duncan) doesn’t hurt, nor does its provocative subject matter (incest), but by all critical accounts what’s most exciting is the promise of Stenham’s writing. Several West End producers have been sniffing around so let’s hope That Face has a life beyond Sloane Square, where its limited season concludes on 19 May. A transfer would also give more theatregoers a chance to see Duncan in her first stage role in six years (See News, 9 Mar 2007). She was last in the West End in 2001, in Private Lives and in Kevin Elyot’s Mouth to Mouth, which, notably, transferred from the Royal Court Upstairs. Related Content |
