Goodall Wrings New Tears from Love Story???
Date: 1 May 2007
And speaking of
Emma Williams, prior to the current development round of
Desperately Seeking Susan, the actress was workshopping another new stage-to-screen musical that may see the light of day further down the line: an adaptation of
Love Story. The 1970 tearjerker starred Ryan O’Neal and Ali McGraw as Oliver and Jennifer, two American college students who fall in love and get married despite being from opposite ends of the class spectrum. The immortal tagline was “love means never having to say you’re sorry”… especially if one of you contracts cancer. In the workshop, Williams (playing Jennifer) is joined by
Simon Thomas (as Oliver),
Fiona Dunn and
Graham Bickley.
Love Story has a book by
Stephen Clarke (
The Far Pavilions) and music by
Howard Goodall (
The Hired Man, Days of Hope, Two Cities). It’s being directed by Birmingham Rep artistic director
Rachel Kavanaugh so perhaps a Midlands premiere is in the works?
