Lipman Sings with Chinese Elvis in West End???Date: 12 April 2007Maureen Lipman may be back in the West End soon in a revival of Charlotte Jones’ 1999 comedy with music Martha, Josie and the Chinese Elvis. Josie is having a birthday, though she isn't in the mood for a celebration. But a party has been arranged - with one very special guest, a Chinese Elvis impersonator, whose arrival triggers a magical change in everyone. The production was first seen this past February at Birmingham Rep, as part of director Rachel Kavanaugh’s inaugural season as the venue’s artistic director. It’s now touring until 5 May 2007, after which West End impresarios Jenny Topper and Lee Dean, who’ve co-produced it regionally with the Rep, hope to bring it into town. Lipman’s previous West End credits include The Sisters Rosensweig, Oklahoma!, Lost in Yonkers, Peggy for You, Thoroughly Modern Millie and Peter Quilter’s 2005 comedy Glorious!, which also started life at Birmingham Rep.
