Springer Creator Does Kombat in TV Operas???Date: 6 March 2007 If you’re wondering what Jerry Springer – The Opera composer and lyricist Richard Thomas has been up to since Christian protestors helped shut the multi award-winning stage musical down, tune in to BBC Two on Sunday evenings at 10.00pm. Thomas – with the help of Dave Gorman, Terry Jones and his Jerry co-creator Stewart Lee – has turned his satirical operatic skills to popular television shows in Kombat Opera. The first two 30-minute episodes in the five-part series have poked fun at The Apprentice and Wife Swap - restyled as The Applicants and Spouse Change. In addition to comic TV actors such as Kevin Eldon, John Thomson, Hugh Dennis and Jon Culshaw, you may recognise a few more faces in the Kombat pieces: Jerry Springer’s Wills Morgan, Lore Lixenberg and Whatsonstage.com Award winner Benjamin Lake all feature, as do other West End regulars such as Simon Gleeson, Kelly Price and Sophia Ragavelas. The next three Sundays broadcasts are Question Time Out, The South Bragg Show and Manorama. We’ll let you guess which actual programmes they send up…
