Spamalot Sad-a-lot by No Olivier Wins???Date: 20 February 2007 Sunday’s Olivier Awards were not quite so celebratory for some guests. The cast of Monty Python’s Spamalot, which was nominated for seven Oliviers, more than any other production in this year’s awards, including Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Supporting Role in a Musical (Tim Curry, Hannah Waddingham and Tom Goodman-Hill) and Best New Musical, were miffed not to take any gongs home. According to the Evening Standard, Waddingham said: “I don't begrudge the best actor or best actress award at all but I really do begrudge the fact we didn't win best new musical. I'm totally pissed off we didn't win that. I'm actually angry. Surely if you are nominated in seven categories there is a reason for that and at some point that should be acknowledged.” The original Broadway production of Spamalot was nominated for 14 Tony awards in 2005 and won three.
