BBC Readies for More of Menzel???

Idina Menzel returned home to the States after finishing her contract on 30 December 2006 in the West End production of Wicked, but the original green girl was back in London this week. She isn’t back on stage at the Apollo Victoria of course – Kerry Ellis has ably stepped into those pointy boots – but fans will have a chance to see her. Or in any case, hear her. Last night, she was at the Mermaid Theatre recording this week’s instalment of Friday Night Is Music Night, along with fellow American vocalist Josh Groban and the BBC Concert Orchestra. A BBC staple for the past half-century, Friday Night is the world's longest-running “live music” (as in it’s recorded, but recorded live in performance) programme on radio. Menzel’s programme is broadcast on Radio 2 this Friday (16 February 2006) at 7.30pm. The engagement also proved to be good news for us as it meant we were able to present Menzel in person with her Whatsonstage.com Award for Best Actress in a Musical, for her performance in Wicked.
