Really Useful Wants to be Really Adaptable???Date: 29 January 2007Andrew Lloyd Webber is reportedly on the look-out for a new, adaptable building to add to his list of seven West End theatres, as a home for his new musical, The Master and Margarita (See The Goss, 25 Aug 2006). The impresario told industry newspaper The Stage he is hoping to open his musical, based on Mikhail Bulgakov’s satirical novel about a magician who mystifies the Moscow locals with his show, at the end of next year or early 2009. But due to the technical difficulty of the production’s special effects, he feels his Really Useful Theatres (which include the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, Her Majesty’s and The Palace) might be less useful for the musical because their listed building status means there is only very limited work that can be carried out on the buildings, making them less adaptable than a new performance space would be.
