Stubbs & Nunn Beyond Blue for Cassidy & Buckley???Date: 8 January 2007 There’s renewed talk of a West End run for a new play about the late American musicians Jeff Buckley and Eva Marie Cassidy, both of whom were lauded for their vocal range and who died prematurely within months of one another a decade ago. Though the pair didn’t perform together in real life, in the two-hander with music entitled Way Beyond Blue, they’re marooned with each other on a desert island. Eva Marie Cassidy died from cancer in November 1996; in May 1997, Jeff Buckley drowned during an evening swim. The play is written by actress-turned-playwright Imogen Stubbs and directed by her husband Trevor Nunn. Nunn - nominated (yet again!) in this year’s Whatsonstage.com Theatregoers’ Choice Awards (click here to vote now!) - directed his wife’s playwriting debut about a Second World War all-female theatrical troupe, We Happy Few, which had a brief West End run in July 2004. A previous workshop of Way Beyond Blue featured Wicked’s new green-skinned star Kerry Ellis as Eva Cassidy (See Today’s 20 Questions).
