With One Notable Exception… Patrick Swayze???
Date: 25 October 2006
In a season of big openings, Dirty Dancing attracted an impressive roll call of celebrities for its first night last night (See 1st Night Photos) – with one very notable exception. Patrick Swayze, who famously played the role of dance instructor Johnny Castle in the 1987 film original, is of course in the West End himself at the moment, starring as Nathan Detroit in Guys and Dolls at the Piccadilly Theatre. So one might have expected him to show his face at Dirty Dancing’s post-show party at the nearby Banqueting House in Whitehall. But no such thing. Was Swayze turning his back on the title that made him a star? No, according to a show spokesperson, Swayze wasn’t invited. The only Johnny Castle to be seen was Australian stage star Josef Brown.
