Drowsy Wakes up for Spring Opening???Date: 24 October 2006 We hear that auditions are properly underway for the planned transfer of this summer’s Broadway hit The Drowsy Chaperone (See The Goss, 8 May 2006), which is now tipped to open in the West End in May or June 2007. As ever with a crowded musical market, the real question is where. Prior to The Lord of the Rings confirmation, it had been one of many contenders for the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. The parody of 1920s romantic musicals started life eight years ago as a sketch for a stag do in Toronto. It has music lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison and a book by Bob Martin – who also appears in the Broadway show and is likely to reprise his performance here - and Don McKellar. According to previous press reports, casting approaches have been made to Michael Ball and Elaine Paige, though they’re unlikely to appear.
