Jude Joined by Stars for Young Vic Christening??? Date: 20 October 2006
The Young Vic reopened last week after its two-year £12.45 million reconstruction, knocking the socks off the assembled press (See News, 12 Oct 2006), but tonight the new building will be officially christened with a bit more pomp and circumstance. Jude Law, who twice trod the boards at the old theatre and who led the fundraising campaign for its redevelopment, will join artistic director David Lan to cut the red ribbon ahead of this evening’s performance of the home-grown community opera Tobias and the Angel, the main house’s inaugural production. In addition to Law, tonight’s invited audience will comprise big wigs from the industry – including the National’s Nicholas Hytner, the Almeida’s Michael Attenborough and artistic directors of other flagship theatres – as well as big-name actors and long-time supporters of the theatre such as Joseph Fiennes and Clive Owen. Owen met his wife Sarah-Jane Fenton when playing Romeo opposite her Juliet at the Young Vic in 1988.
