Six Dance Lessons After Seven Brides???Date: 29 September 2006 With the premature closure of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, which will now finish on 18 November (See News, 26 Sep 2006), the Theatre Royal Haymarket is primed for a new resident. We hear the production on the cards is the UK premiere of the American comedy Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks. When Lily Harrison, a recent widow of a Southern Baptist minister, hires a dance instructor to give her private lessons, she gets more than she bargained for in the form of Michael Minetti, a gay New Yorker 30 years her junior. Richard Alfrieri’s play was first seen in Los Angeles in 2001 with Uta Hagen and David Hyde Pierce, while Polly Bergen and Mark Hamill starred in the short-lived Broadway premiere in autumn 2003. In London, Claire Bloom (whose London stage credits include Conversations After a Burial and Whistling Psyche at the Almeida) and Hollywood screen star Billy Zane (Titanic) are tipped to appear.
