Wicked First Night Tickets = £1,100 on Ebay???
Date: 26 September 2006
The excitement surrounding Broadway smash-hit
Wicked has not only taken hold on our discussion forum, but also on ebay, where a pair of tickets for the glitzy opening tomorrow night (27 September 2006) at the West End’s Apollo Victoria Theatre – including a pass to the post-show party at the Royal Courts of Justice, which industry folk are talking up as
the party of the year – is up for auction at a whopping £1,100 (See
News, 25 Sep 2006). Last time we checked in, no bids had been placed for the lot. Probably because the Wizard himself couldn’t scale the astronomically high asking price. Meanwhile, the current edition of
What’s On Stage magazine, featuring
Idina Menzel on the front cover, is also up for auction on the site; it currently has two bids at £3.95 (plus £1.75 postage for the lucky winner). However, if you want to pick up a copy for free, you can still pop into major West End theatres by the end of this week!
Wicked tells the “untold story” of the Witches of Oz - popular blonde Glinda, the Good Witch of the North, and her spin-victim friend Elphaba, the green-skinned Wicked Witch of the West – who were both immortalised in the 1939 film classic
The Wizard of Oz. The show has a book by Winnie Holtzman, based on Gregory Maguire’s novel
Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz.
Idina Menzel reprises her Tony Award-winning Broadway performance as Elphaba, while Australian
Helen Dallimore plays “good witch” Glinda.
Adam Garcia,
Nigel Planer and
Miriam Margolyes also star. The London production reunites the New York creative team, led by director
Joe Mantello and designer
Eugene Lee. Amongst the celebs expected at tomorrow’s opening include: Kim Cattrall, Duncan James, Patricia Hodge, Imelda Staunton, John Barrowman, Taye Diggs, Tonya Pinkins, Philip Pullman, Peter Hall, Aled Jones, Sandi Toksvig, Roger Michell, Alan Cumming, Olivia Williams, Michael Attenborough and original
Billy Elliots Liam Mower, James Lomas and George Maguire.
